GEORGE MACDONALD
Mit einem Stipendium studierte der schottische Autor in Aberdeen Theologie und begann anschließend, selbst zu unterrrichten - ab 1859 hatte er die Professur in englischer Literatur am Bedford College inne, er arbeitete allerdings auch als Prediger. Nebenbei veröffentlichte er Gedichte, Erzählungen und Übersetzungen, unter anderem des deutschen Romantikers Novalis. In späteren Jahren übersiedelte MacDonald mit seiner Familie nach Italien, wo er 1905 nach einem Schlaganfall starb. MacDonald war eng mit Lewis Carroll und etlichen anderen Schriftstellern befreundet. Neben seinen phantastische Erzählungen schrieb MacDonald auch Alltagsgeschichten, in denen er seine bodenständigen christlichen Überzeugungen zum Ausdruck bringt. (1824-1905)
